march in the studio + in the garden

After what could hardly be considered a winter, spring has arrived in the city a little ahead of schedule. The seasonal transition is always such a delicate time. We must find our equilibrium again in the new light and temperature conditions. I tend to double-down on my own rituals this time of year to help ease harmoniously into the season. Movement every day, lots of music (here is my spring playlist!), cups of tea and time in the garden. The schedule begins to fill up after the quieter wintertime, so be sure to set aside time for dreaming and resting (may I suggest steeping a cup of our Tea for Dreamers?), in order to balance it all out. Here are a few moments from the past month:

a full work table. this month has been full of projects!

our limited-edition rose geranium + pink pepper bathing salts. such a bright and enlivening combination, perfect for a warm spring bath with the window open…

another tiny batch offering of my own rose geranium hydrosol, grown and distilled in-house + blended with a little bit of rare and precious geranium sur fleurs essence. this is such a special formula, I’m truly so delighted to share it with you!

brewing up a cup of fleurs + cacao. the perfect treat for a blustery spring day.

I so appreciated this recent blog post from Amanda over at AS Apothecary. Making small-batch products by hand from real plants and raw materials carefully sourced from artisan producers is not the easy way to go, I can assure you. Your support for this kind of work contributes to our collective resistance against corporate consolidation and its attendant soullessness, destruction of our environment and our health, and alienation from each other and from the natural world.

I’m also reading Éireann Lorsung’s lovely newsletter

And my friend Elise’s new essay, Daisy Consciousness. She draws so many interesting connections here.

sending another vintage treasure out to a new home, filled with our rose, cardamom & sandalwood botanical perfume balm

playing with a little hyacinth enfleurage, just for fun

labeling a fresh batch of orange blossom butters. I especially adore this scent in the springtime!

preparing a batch of our hand-poured beeswax tapers for the new location of KinKa. be sure to go visit them on East 7th St!

more hyacinths. read a bit more about enfleurage here. and how lovely is this?

blooms at the studio over the last few weeks. my jasmine really needs more hours of sun than it gets, but one tiny flower was enough to scent the entire corner by the window

spring things are well and truly happening in the garden. these gorgeous little fuzzy leaves belong to our Robin’s Plantain (Erigeron pulchellis), and there are peach blossoms and trilliums, too!

I’ve been enjoying perusing the New York Flora Atlas these past few weeks, an excellent resource on the plants of New York State…
